The producers of the film wanted Ajay Devgan to play the role of Ramadhir Singh. Even the character of Faizal Khan was inspired by the real life gangster Faheem Khan. The story was inspired by the real life rivalry between Surya Dev Singh (was the MLA from Jharia in Dhanbad) and Shafiq Khan.
